Whats is a emergent literacy?
Emergent Literacy is the knowledge and skills that lay a foundation for reading and writing. Typically developing in the preschool years from early experiences with written language.
How to encourage emergent literacy?
- Provide easy access to reading and writing material
-Model reading and writing behavior
-Take trips to the library
-Demonstrate reading in useful and fun activities
Young children whose parents read to them frequently learn to read more easily once they reach the elementary years .
Letter Recognition and Phonological awareness
Prerequisite for learning to read includes knowing letters and the sounds that each represent. More than for children to be successful readers have phonological awareness, when they hear a distinct sound that make up words. Phonological awareness develops gradually during the preschool and early elementary years!
By preschool school, many children can recognize certain words that they find familiar.
